8th Linguistic Landscapes International Workshop
The 8th Linguistic
Landscapes International Workshop will take place at the University of
Liverpool from Wednesday, 27 to Friday, 29 April 2016.
Theme
The workshop will focus
on the theme of “Regeneration, Revitalisation, Reterritorialisation”. These
terms are especially pertinent descriptors of Liverpool, which has undergone a
period of significant change since the start of the millennium.
The “LL8” moniker is a
particularly poignant reminder of the 1981 Toxteth Riots, which for many have
come to symbolise the destitution and anger associated with the final chapters
of Britain’s industrial era.
The Toxteth postcode,
L8, also covers the University campus, where our ongoing institutional
regeneration is constituent to the reterritorialisation of Liverpool as a
whole.
Format
The workshop will
consist of a series of non-parallel paper presentations and discussion slots
(approximately 30 in number).
Submissions
Abstract submission
will run from the end of August until the end of November 2015.
Notification of acceptance will be sent to contributors in early January 2016.
See call for papers for more advice on
submissions.
Social activities
As in previous years,
the programme will include a conference dinner on the evening of Thursday, 28
April.
An optional social
event will also take place on Saturday, 30 April.
Details of social
events will be publicised when available.
Venue
LL8 will take place on
the University of Liverpool’s central campus, which is located between the
city’s iconic Anglican and Metropolitan cathedrals, and in our Liverpool city
centre at a venue to be advised.
See Visiting
the University for directions and campus maps.
Practical advice
Advice on registration
and accommodation will be available nearer to the time of the conference.
