AILA World Congress 2014 (AILA 2014)

AILA 2014 invites proposals for presentations that are related to policy, research, and theory in areas of applied linguistics. Proposals may be for individual papers, posters, symposia or workshops. Please refer to the streams available for submissions.

Please note the following important information.

• Call for proposals will close midnight on Tuesday 30 April 2013 (AEST).
• Abstracts can only be submitted online - submissions by email, post or fax cannot be accepted.
• Proposals must be submitted in English. If you wish to present your proposal at the congress in a language other than English, you may do so, but you must advise of the language you will be presenting in at the time of submission. Please note, however, there will be no translation services at the congress.
• You must submit your paper to a specific stream.
• Please read all the information below before submitting your paper.

TYPES OF PRESENTATIONS (4)

Individual Papers
Papers will consist of 30-minute sessions, of which 20 minutes should be for the presentation and 10 minutes for discussion time.

Poster Presentations
Poster submissions will be considered for reporting the full range of an applied linguistics presentation, using visual media (including enlarged text, diagrams, charts, graphs, or tables). Poster presenters will be allocated a specific program session to enable them to discuss their projects with interested congress participants. Guidelines for posters will be made available on acceptance of submissions.

Symposia
Symposiums will be scheduled for 2-hour sessions. Organisers of symposiums may divide their time as they choose, although some of the time should be reserved for audience discussion. Organisers of symposiums are expected to liaise with their symposia presenters and with the congress program committee.

Workshops
Sessions of 1 hour will be allocated for workshops. Workshops are for demonstrating practical work, such as courseware, software, teaching or classroom techniques.

FORMAT OF PROPOSALS

Submission of Individual Papers, Posters, Symposium and Workshops
Proposals for all presentations, including symposium and workshops should include a title (no more than 15 words), an abstract (maximum 300 words) and a summary (50 words). For further information please refer to the guidelines example here.

In order to provide opportunities for as many people as possible to present their work at the Congress, and in line with most national applied linguistics’ congresses, authors may not submit more than a total of two abstracts for papers, workshops or symposia (i.e., 2 papers; a paper and a workshop; a paper and a symposium) where they are the presenter. In addition, individuals may undertake other roles at the Congress, e.g. symposium chair, symposium discussion section contributor, and may be a subsequent author on a paper, where that paper is to be presented by another registered participant.
