X Workshop on Formal Linguistics
We are pleased to announce the X
Workshop on Formal Linguistics, to be held on August 28-29, 2014 at
Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) in Porto Alegre, Brazil. The
workshop welcomes papers on any topic concerning formal accounts of meaning and/or
grammatical structure with relevance to current linguistic theory – in
particular, those exploring core aspects of the organization of linguistic
knowledge and interface phenomena (syntax-semantics, semantics-pragmatics,
syntax-pragmatics, syntax-prosody, morphology-semantics, etc.). The conference
is open to work done from any theoretical perspective in formal linguistics.
The official language of the conference is English.

MINI-COURSES
We are also pleased to announce that, as part
of the activities of the workshop, Professors Gennaro Chierchia, John
Beavers, Roberta Pires de Oliveira (UFSC) and
Márcia Cançado will offer 3-day mini-courses from August 25 to August 27, 2014.
CALL OF PAPERS
Abstracts are invited for oral presentations (20-minute
presentation plus 10-minute discussion) on any topic concerning formal accounts
to meaning and structure in natural language.
In addition, the workshop will be hosting a
poster session. We especially encourage undergraduate and graduate students to
participate.
ABSTRACT
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Abstracts should be at
most two pages long (A4 paper), including examples and references, with 1
inch/2.5 cm margins on all sides and Times New Roman 12pt font. The abstract
should have a title but should not identify the author(s). Submissions are
limited to 1 individual and 1 joint abstract per author, or 2 joint abstracts
per author. Abstracts should be written in English.
Anonymous abstracts are
to be submitted electronically, in PDF format, using Easy Abstracts tools, at
the following address: http://linguistlist.org/confcustom/workshop-ufrgs
When you submit your
abstract, you will be asked to indicate whether you would like it to be
considered (i) for a talk only, (ii) for a talk or a poster, or (iii) for a
poster only.
SUBMISSION
DEADLINE:
The deadline for
submitting an abstract is May 15, 2014. Notification of acceptance will
be sent by e-mail to the authors by June 15, 2014.
